American actress, philanthropist, singer and film producer Nicole Kidman had her breakthrough role in psychological thriller "Dead Calm” (1989). She rose to worldwide fame for her performance in "Days of Thunder” (1990). She was the first Australian actress to achieve the "Best Actress Academy Award” for her character of Virginia Woolf in the film "The Hours” (2002). Academy Award nominations also won by her for her roles in the movies "Rabbit Hole” and "Moulin Rouge”! The production company "Blossom Films” founded and owned by her. Kidman is a Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF since 1994 and for UNIFEM since 2006 because of her strong faith in women’s privileges and rights.

Nicole Kidman is the daughter of Janelle Ann (nursing instructor) and Antony David Kidman (biochemist and clinical psychologist). She has English, Irish and Scottish descent. She has a younger sister named Antonia Kidman (Australian TV personality). Nicole was attended in ballet class at the age of 3. Kidman was occupied in the arts from early teenage years, participating and acting in school plays. Nicole was required to leave school due to cancer of her mother and to afford for her family; she worked as a massage therapist. Fortunately her mother managed to survive the suffering. She worked at the Philip Street Theater on a regular basis. Personal praise and encouragement letter received by her from audience member Jane Campion who was then a film student. At age 16 she landed a character in the Australian holiday favorite "Bush Christmas” in 1983 which followed a lead in "BMX Bandits” in 1983 and miniseries "Vietnam” in 1987. She ultimately made her US debut in 1989 with the assist of an American agent.
